Pipe lifting solutions for different materials
Vacuum and mechanical pipe lifting attachments provide various solutions for different types of pipes, including bare and coated steel pipes, cast and ductile iron pipes, and fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) pipes. The most suitable solution is determined by the pipe material, surface or coating, diameter range, weight, and handling process.
Vacuum lifting for one or multiple pipes
When the pipe surface is airtight and therefore suitable for vacuum lifting, vacuum lifters provide a practical solution for horizontal handling of both bare and coated pipes. The lifting system can be configured for one pipe or multiple pipes in a single lift. As pipes are picked up directly from above, they can be stored close together or against the vessel hold wall.
Mechanical solutions for coated pipes and varying diameters
In case the pipe surface is too porous, or a wide range of pipe diameters needs to be handled with the same lifting device, a mechanical lifting solution is a better choice. Depending on the operational situation, this can be a pipe spreader, hydraulic fingers, or clamps. The mechanical lifting attachment can be configured for one pipe or multiple pipes in a single lift.
Applications throughout the whole pipe handling process
Pipe lifting equipment is used for applications such as horizontal lifting, internal transport, movement into and out of storage, and loading and unloading. These handling operations take place throughout the supply chain, from pipe production and coating to port handling, construction, and offshore operations.
Integration with a host machine
Our pipe vacuum lifters and mechanical pipe lifting attachments can be integrated with existing lifting equipment, such as overhead or mobile cranes, reach stackers, or heavy-duty forklifts. The configuration is matched to the host machine’s available connection or hook, power supply, controls, and lifting capacity. Depending on the handling process, the lifting solution can be operated by one person or integrated into the host machine’s control system.

Advantages compared with conventional pipe lifting
Compared with conventional pipe lifting with slings, chains, or hooks, our vacuum and mechanical solutions handle the pipe directly. This reduces manual handling and simplifies the handling process. Key benefits and advantages are:
- Reduced risk of product damage due to product-friendly contact points
- Enhanced safety as handling can be controlled remotely
- Streamlined operations due to quick suction and release within seconds
- Simplified handling & lower equipment costs as no slings, hooks or spacers are necessary
- Flexible handling as different sizes, diameters, and multiple pipes per load are possible
- Improved ergonomics due to reduced manual handling around the load
- Good return on investment through increased productivity and reduced operational expenses
